BEFORE: The scratched and worn mahogany-look floor
Farcroft can sand down your wooden floors, removing old varnish and ugly stains. We were called upon by a school, wanting to updated the tired mahogany-look floor in their main hall. Looking at the 'before' picture, above, it's hard to believe that there's lovely pine wood underneath all that! We sanded it all down, revealing the light natural beauty and grain of the pine. Then we sealed the floor, using a discreet matt finish – and our work was done!

Hardwood trees are mostly broad-leaved and deciduous (apart from in tropical areas, where they're evergreen).
Hardwoods are typically good for flooring, thanks to their durability – and the wood is also used in construction and furniture making.
Hardwood is distinct from softwood, which comes from conifers.
Hardwood is typically denser and harder than softwood – but not always.
Commercially grown pine is technically a softwood, but hard-wearing and versatile, and excellent for flooring.
