These easy tips will help keep your wooden floors happy for many years to come.

• Don't let dirt and grime build up on your wood flooring – as it can lead to dents and scratches. Sweep, dust or vacuum your floors on a daily basis.

• Keep your floors clean by using mats at the front and back door. These can trap dirt and mud and stop it from being spread all across your lovely hardwood flooring. Simple steps like this can also help prevent longterm damage.

• Make sure you use gentle cleaning products suitable for wood floors. Don't just get out the mop and slop water everywhere – or it can lead to staining or cracking.

• Don't go crazy with the cleaning products, or you could rub away the shine!

• Never drag heavy furniture and appliances across hardwood floors, or you risk nasty scratching.

• Use discreet coasters (available from hardware stores) to protect your floors from damage from heavy items, like sofas.

• Watch out for water - it can be very damaging, so mop up spills whenever they occur.

• Clean your floors carefully before waxing, or dirt could become embedded in your floorboards.

• Don't wear your stilettos on your beautiful new floor - unless you like the pock-marked look!

• Invest in protective runners and rugs – they can look great, and will prolong the life of your wood floor.

• Vacuum your rugs on a weekly basis, to stop dirt underneath getting ingrained in your floor.

• Keep your pets' claws trimmed, to avoid them making little scratches on your hardwood floor.

• Don't use waxing or polishing products on your hardwood floor (we'll offer suitable suggestions depending on the finish you choose).
